Villingen is an enchanting town with a historical town centre which you can enjoy by strolling up and down its pedestrian zone. The old quarter is surrounded by a city wall with some city gates. Villingen ist the first town founded by the famous “Zähringer”-family, who has also founded Freiburg im Breisgau. In the heart of Villingen you can find the market place, which is home to the “Münster” cathedral and the town hall. Historical buildings form a beautiful boundary of the big market place. It is also a good starting point if you wish to explore the romantic alleys, visit the “Kapuziner Museum” or the park that surrounds the town wall. Numerous cafes, little shops and a lot of sights invite the guests to stay for a while.

The historic town is part of the twin town Villingen-Schwenningen. The region offers numerous sights, such as the source of the river “Neckar”, which lies within a beautiful hiking area. Villingen-Schwenningen offers a wide variety of hiking and cycle paths. Only a few kilometers away you can find a thermal salt water spa in Bad Dürrheim. This is every bit as attractive as the lovely town Donaueschingen, which features the source of the Danube in the wonderful garden of castle “Fürstenberg”. You can reach Donaueschingen by driving though the romantic valley of the river “Brigach”.
-
North of Villingen you can find Rottweil, the oldest town in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg. There the big mediaeval trading houses in the town center are very attractive sight.
-
Nevertheless, we have much more to offer. From Villingen you can easily access a small town called Triberg, either by car of by the famous Black Forest Train. Triberg is known for its Waterfall, historic council hall and the Black Forest Museum. If you follow the main road through Triberg you will reach the “Gutach” valley, home to the world-famous “Bollenhut”, the traditional Black Forest hat.

Are you ready to explore any further? Titisee, Lake Constance, the waterfalls of the river Rhine in Schaffhausen (Switzerland) and many more sights are just a stone’s throw from Villingen.
